Here at Foxboro Doodles, our dogs do not live in kennels. We believe that every dog should have a home and a family to love them. We would also not be able to learn how our parent dogs do in a home/family setting if they lived in kennels, which is very important to us. That is why we use guardian homes for all of our breeding dogs that do not live in our own home.
A guardian home is a family that co-owns a Bernedoodle, Poodle or Bernese Mountain Dog of ours while we retain breeding rights. The dog would live in your home just like any other pet, but will come to us for breeding purposes. Once retired, the breeding rights discontinue and you will be the sole owner of the dog. Approved guardians will receive a well-bred, health tested puppy with an excellent temperament free of charge.
Guardian families are responsible for all routine costs associated with owning a dog, including all food and supplies, regular vet visits, vaccinations (or titer testing when older), deworming, heartworm, tick/flea prevention, etc. We, the breeders, will cover all costs associated with health testing, breeding and whelping, and all food costs for when the dog is in our care.
For our female guardians, we retain exclusive breeding rights for up to 3 litters. She will stay with us for one week during breeding, then will typically return to us 7-10 days before her expected due date. She will stay with us from then until the puppies are weaned at 8-9 weeks of age, then will return home to you. During her stay with us, you are welcome to come and visit your dog and interact with her and the puppies at scheduled times.
Once the guardian dog has completed her breeding career and she is spayed, the contract ends and the dog is yours to keep. Please remember: all females will live in our home for up to three 9-10 week periods in her lifetime. If you are not comfortable with your dog leaving your home for extended periods of time, the guardian program is not for you. We treat all of our guardian dogs as our own and they receive the absolute best care when they stay with us.
For our male guardians, we retain breeding rights until his 6th birthday. He will be used with our females, and for stud services to approved, health tested females owned by other breeders. He will be required for up to 1 week per scheduled breeding. We guarantee at least 1 week's notice for all breeding requirements and expect our males to be used approximately 2-8 times per year (exact numbers are dependant on how many stud services may be requested annually).
